My pace, remembered on Namhansanseong
For the first time in my life,
a mountain I wanted to climb and actually climbed—
Namhansanseong, not just any mountain.
When I started climbing at first,
my right leg tingled a bit and I was scared,
but being able to climb is my normal
so I gathered courage and decided to walk and climb.
Until the midpoint the incline was steep and I thought "hmm?",
but it was climbable and from the midpoint on rhythm started to set in,
and I started jogging up slowly.
A memory came back of climbing a mountain decades ago.
Yeah, I'm the type who falls behind others at first and struggles until midpoint, but once I get past that, I start sprinting up and get excited and fly. I'm that kind of person.
I was happy that that feeling I'd forgotten for so long came back to life.
Over 20 years living in Seoul and I'm only coming now.
Spring, summer, fall, winter—or maybe I'll come every month.
Wasn't that me? (talking to myself)
Me, who absolutely hated climbing mountains,
I said someday I'd start hiking on my own.
It came earlier than I thought.
I figured I wouldn't climb until I was in my 50s.
